INTENSIVE GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE - Course Information

LEVELS & STUDY LENGTH

  • Students can start courses every Monday (except for public holidays).
  • Minimum length of study is 1 week
  • Elementary to Advanced levels
  • All courses based on 12-week program plans

PROGRAMS & HOURS

Elite program
  • 24 hours per week face to face teaching
  • 3 hours of One-to-One Program (one-to-one lessons with an English tutor)
  • 1 hour of activities
Intensive Plus program
  • 24 hours per week face to face teaching
  • 1 hour of activities
Intensive program
  • 20 hours face to face teaching

COURSE CONTENT

Morning Class
  • Teachers use a course book for this class.
  • Special focus on daily pronunciation and speaking practice.
  • Also includes comprehensive listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary.
SKILLS FOR FLUENCY
  • Elementary to Intermediate levels.
  • Aim is to give students techniques and skills to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing ability.
TOEIC PREPARATION
  • Pre-Intermediate to Intermediate levels.
  • The course book based program prepares students for the TOEIC exam.
  • Extensive exam practice including 2 full practice exams
STUDY SKILLS
  • Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels
  • Aim is to challenge students to achieve higher English proficiency required for further academic study
  • Focus is on Reading, Writing and Communication skills
  • An ideal starting point for IELTS or iBT TOEFL exam preparation
One-to-One Program (optional)
  • Unique program in addition to regular morning and afternoon program.
  • Gives students extra conversation opportunities and English language support
  • One to one lessons with a tutor 3 times per week for one hour
  • Program can be tailor made to meet individual’s needs.
Activities
  • Choose from a selection such as self study, watching a movie, playing boardgames or playing table tennis.

 

TEACHING MATERIALS

  • Sun Pacific College uses the latest internationally recognised course text books and reference materials including online resources and teacher made materials
  • Students can gain extra practice from the College stock of student workbooks, worksheets and self study reading, listening, grammar, vocabulary, English exam preparation and other learning materials.

TEACHING METHODS

  • We use communicative, learner-centred and interactive teaching methods informed by recent academic research.
  • Students are encouraged to become actively involved in their own learning and to make the most of the English-speaking environment around them.
  • Instructional activities are varied to cater for individual learning strategies and styles as well as to improve both receptive and productive skills.
  • Grouping strategies are also varied (eg individual, pair work, small group work) to stimulate learner interaction and contribution.
  • Daily revision and homework activities to help consolidate language learning and to encourage autonomous learning.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

  • Students are tested on arrival and placed in an appropriate class for their English level.
  • Students are given short weekly progress tests and 2-3 comprehensive tests throughout the 12-week program.
  • Promotion to the next class level depends on satisfactory performance in these tests as well as satisfactory completion of a short independent level check test.
  • On completion of their course, students are given a certificate which details their final English proficiency leve l as well as the length of their study program.
